Our History

Burkmann Feeds began operations when longtime friends and University of Kentucky classmates, David Williams and Jerry Germann, came together to found the company, purchasing what had been a Purina facility adjacent to the railroad switching yard in Danville, Kentucky in 1978. The following year a new feed plant was completed capable of receiving product from both rail and truck, and providing a high level of product integrity in both textured and pelleted feed products. The growth Burkmann Feeds has experienced over the past 30 years has been dramatic. The following are some of the milestones the company has experienced during that time:


  • 1978 Founded by Dr. David Williams and Mr. Jerry Germann
  • 1979 New feed plant completed in Danville, opened business
  • 1986 Added nutritionist, Dr. Gary T. Lane
  • 1986 Opened mill and store at Eubank, Kentucky
  • 1989 Added nutritionist, Dr. Darrell Johnson
  • 1990 Opened third store in Glasgow, Kentucky - Eugene Myatt, Partner
  • 1990 Formed partnership with M&W Milling, Columbia, Kentucky - Homer Goodin, Partner
  • 1990 Formed partnership with Kentucky Nutrition Services...Dr. Ron Wendlandt, Ph.D.
  • 1992 Began producing feed in Glasgow, Kentucky
  • 1993 Opened mill and store in London, Kentucky - Gary Allen, Partner
  • 1995 Purchased Pan American Feeds, Bowling Green, Kentucky
  • 1997 Purchased Producer Feeds, Louisville, Kentucky
  • 1997 Added nutritionist, Keith West, M.S.
  • 1999 Added nutritionist, Jay Garmon, M.S.
  • 1999 Opened store in Greeneville, Tennessee
  • 2000 Opened store in Edmonton, Kentucky
  • 2001 Formed Burkmann Information Technologies (computer systems, networking, repairs)
  • 2002 Formed partnership with Farmers Milling Company, Carthage, Tennessee, - Michael Patterson, Partner
  • 2002 Opened store in Murfreesboro Tennessee, Celebration Feeds
  • 2003 Opened store in Cookeville, Tennessee, Celebration Feeds
  • 2004 Opened store in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Celebration Feeds
  • 2005 Opened store in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky
  • 2007 Opened store in Lebanon, Kentucky
