Dr. David Williams
williamsDr. David Williams is president and co-founder of Burkmann Feeds. Dr. Williams is a native of Bullitt County, Kentucky, where he grew up on a 300-acre beef and dairy cow and tobacco farm. He was an active 4-H member, earned the American Farmer degree in the FFA and served as a state officer in FFA.

At the University of Kentucky, Dr. Williams received his B.S. degree in Agriculture, majoring in Animal Science. He was a member of the Livestock Judging, Block & Bridle, Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and Alpha Zeta honorary Society in agriculture.

His Master's degree in Animal Nutrition was earned with research emphasis in beef cattle.

At Iowa State University, Dr. Williams taught Feeds and Feeding, Livestock Judging and Animal Science 101. He was faculty advisor for 58 Animal Science undergraduates.

His Ph.D. degree in Ruminant Nutrition included research in early weaning (90 days of age) beef calves and feedlot studies with Holstein beef (bulls and steers).

Upon graduation, Dr. Williams joined the staff of the University of Kentucky, and later became the nutritionist and director of compliance for the Farmers Friend Mineral Company in Louisville, Kentucky, where he developed the famous MediLac Mineral and many other unique products.

Dr. Williams was the first, and as of November 1, 2007 the only, animal scientist in the world to develop a cattle mineral containing Rumensin to be awarded approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for free-choice feeding. This clearance was based on eight research studies (two at the University of Kentucky, two at Iowa State University, two at Mississippi State University and two at Louisiana State University) proving the efficacy of the nutritional formulation.

Dr. Williams and his wife, Betty-Gayle, live on a farm in Boyle County, Kentucky. Their son, Brent, is general manager of Producer Feeds in Louisville, Kentucky. Their daughter, Stacie, is a speech language pathologist with the Boyle County Schools.

Dr. Williams served as treasurer of the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association from 2002-2007. He has served as director of the Kentucky Feed and Grain Association, United Way, Chamber of Commerce and Kentucky Ag Heritage Center. He is currently a member of the Federal Reserve Bank Agriculture Advisory Council and chairman of the board of Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and Ephraim McDowell Health, Inc. in Danville.

Dr. David and Betty-Gayle are members of Lexington Avenue Baptist church.
Darrell D. Johnson, Ph.D., PAS, Dipl. ACAN
johnsonDarrell Johnson was raised in Springfield, Missouri where he worked on his family's beef and dairy operation until he graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1977 with a B.S. in Animal Science. He then attended the University of Kentucky, where he received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Ruminant Nutrition. He served as an extension ruminant nutrition specialist at Mississippi State University from 1983-1989. In April of 1989, he accepted the position of technical service specialist with Burkmann Feeds in Danville, Kentucky. He was promoted to director of technical services in January of 2007.

Dr. Johnson is currently (2008) serving as president of the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) and was previously southern director, membership chairman and served on the editorial board. He is a past president of the Southern Branch of the American Dairy Science Association and is also a member of the American Society of Animal Science. He served as vice-president of Agriculture for the Boyle County Fair for 15 years and is actively involved with the Kentucky Cattleman's Association, county extension council and University of Kentucky Alumni Association.

He and his wife Elizabeth, plus their two children, Justin and Jessica, live on a 120-acre farm where they raise purebred beef cattle.
Dr. Chris DePew
depewDr. Chris DePew grew up in northern Indiana, where his interest in animals developed through involvement in 4-H and FFA, working with veterinarians and showing horses. He attended Purdue University where he obtained a B.S. degree in Animal Science. Chris went on to Louisiana State University where he obtained his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Animal Nutrition. Prior to coming to work for Burkmann Feeds, Dr. DePew worked as an independent and field nutritionist for feed companies, calling on livestock operations in the southeast, midwest and northwest. His primary emphasis has been working with dairy enterprises ranging in herd size from 20 to 2,000 cows, and systems ranging from confinement and total mixed rations to parlor-pasture-based and all variations in between. In addition to his work with dairy enterprises, he also developed rations for beef, horse, sheep, goat, deer and elk. Dr. DePew works out of Burkmann's Glasgow store covering southcentral Kentucky and areas of Tennessee. Dr. Depew joined Burkmann Feeds in July 2007.
Tim Shirley
shirleyTim Shirley has been a member of the Burkmann team since 1992. He started out as a territory sales manager and now serves as a tech service nutritionist in Glasgow. Tim is a native of Barren County, Kentucky, where he grew up on a family farm with beef cows and calves and Holstein heifers. Tim earned his B.S. degree in Agriculture from Western Kentucky University.
Gary Lane
laneDr. Gary Lane grew up on a livestock farm in Kentucky, which gave him an early start on his interest in agriculture. Pursuing his passion, he attended Berea College where he earned a B.S. in Agriculture before moving on to Purdue University for his M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition. After completing his education, Dr. Lane was an assistant and associate professor at Texas A & M's Animal Sciences Department and an associate professor and professor in the Animal Sciences Department at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Lane is an accomplished author, having been published more than 130 times, and is a member of numerous national societies and associations, including being a past chair of the Southern Division of ADSA. His outstanding work and research has presented him with various honors and awards from nationally recognized councils and universities. He joined Burkmann Feeds in 1986 and is currently a nutritionist at the Danville location.
Dr. Mark Tiffany
tiffanyDr. Mark Tiffany is a native of the state of Florida. He earned the Bachelor of Science Degree in May of 1996 from the University of Florida, Gainesville, with a major in Animal Science. The Masters Degree in ruminant nutrition was earned at the University of Florida in August, 1998. Dr. Tiffany then moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to study in the area of ruminant nutrition at North Carolina State University under the direction of Dr. J. W. Spears. He earned the Ph.D. degree in Animal Nutrition in 2003. Before his affiliation with Burkmann, Dr. Tiffany served as Technical Sales Manager for Kentucky-Tennessee and North Carolina for Alltech Biotechnology Company.

In February, 2004 Dr. Tiffany became a business partner in Burkmann Feeds - Greeneville, Tennessee. He is heavily involved in ruminant nutrition consulting with customers in Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginia.
